Attention to the Little Details for Everything We do
HE VAN Nozzle by Rain Bird
The Rain Bird HE VAN Nozzle reminds me of a conversation I had recently with a two-time Super Bowl Champion NFL coach. However, I won’t mention his name, because I didn’t ask him if I could. He and his wife are irrigation customers of Blue Sky Rain Sprinkler Specialists and Landscape Lighting. We completed a renovation project on his irrigation and outdoor lighting in Birmingham, AL. During this time, I noticed he was kind, knowledgeable and easy to talk to, so I asked him if he had any life advice for me. He said, “The key to success is always paying attention to the little details.” I mention this, because the HE VAN Nozzle by Rain Bird is the epitome of paying attention to the little details.
Top Irrigation Challenges
To appreciate the genius of the HE VAN Nozzle, you need to consider the problems with irrigation. The goal of irrigation is simple, get water to the roots. Meaning, the roots of every shrub, flower, tree and the lawn. When the right amount of water is getting to all the plant material in your landscape, we call that proper coverage. When you have poor coverage, you run your sprinkler system longer for water to eventually get to all the plants. Long run times hitting and missing the target plant material causes higher water use and consequently higher water and sewer bills.
The two biggest obstacles to proper sprinkler coverage are evaporation and wind. The wind blowing the stream off course before the water reaches its intended plant material target hinders coverage.
For that reason, Rain Bird created the HE VAN Nozzle. This new design puts out little streams that look like spokes on a wheel. This unique stream pattern with larger water droplets gives it greater wind resistance than other nozzles. The lower trajectory spray and large water droplets reduce misting and evaporation also.
When the water is properly hitting its target, you can run your system for a shorter amount of time for big water savings. In our area, Birmingham, AL, that equates to a substantial cost savings on water and in some cases sewer bills. Rain Bird claims a savings as great as 35%.
Accurate Coverage
Another common problem with irrigation spray heads is accurate spraying. Rain Bird improved that too!
In addition to a more efficient stream, the HE VAN Nozzle creates a more exact spraying radius. This allows more accurate watering to prevent dry spots and give better edge coverage. The HE VAN Nozzle is fully adjustable from 0° to 360° to efficiently water landscapes of all shapes. More exact watering means shorter run times and lower water use.
A big problem with spray heads is that they don’t hold their adjustment. For that reason, Rain Bird added a tactile click to its HE VAN Nozzle. The result is the arc setting staying in place with less drifting over time. Rain Bird’s HE VAN Nozzle is now available in popular 8′, 10′, 12’, and 15’ radii. More size options improves creative irrigation coverage.
